ABOUT THE JOB:
Google is more than a software company, its massive digital ecosystem relies
heavily on physical architecture built and sustained by the Technical
Infrastructure team. As a Server Operations Manager, you will lead a dedicated
team of Data Center Technicians tasked with monitoring, maintaining, and
deploying the infrastructure that powers Google's search technology and global
product portfolio. In this role, you will directly oversee the high-quality
installation and configuration of server hardware, components, and specialized
server software, including Google’s customized Linux cluster.
Your leadership will extend beyond routine maintenance to managing highly
complex installations and technical troubleshooting. Under your guidance, the
team will manage intricate networking infrastructure, configuring essential
components like routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and various networking
protocols. Additionally, technicians may lead small, dedicated project teams
during large-scale hardware installations and develop comprehensive project
contingency plans to mitigate potential downtime.
The Technical Infrastructure team operates with an engineering-first mindset,
priding themselves on being "our engineers' engineers." They grow on taking
systems apart to rebuild them better, constantly pushing boundaries from initial
data center development to engineering next-generation platforms. Ultimately,
your team is responsible for keeping Google's networks up, running, and
completely secure. By ensuring maximum hardware efficiency and seamless system
performance, you play a vital role in providing millions of global users with
the fastest and most reliable experience possible online.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills,
experience, and relevant education or training.
