Position Summary
Based in our Kenosha, WI facility with a hybrid schedule of on-site and remote weekly, 2nd shift 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm. The Data Center Operator is responsible for supporting the stability, performance, and integrity of the MIT Cloud ecosystem. This role supports day-to-day shift operations to ensure backups, system uptime, and customer requests consistently meet SLAs. This role acts as the initial contact point for internal and external customers for incident and service requests, as well as escalations. The individual will execute a variety of daily tasks in support of both the MIT Cloud services, as well as remote customer environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Processing internal/external customer incident and service requests. Provide first level diagnoses or resolution of requests. Ensure proper documentation of findings, resolving steps, or escalation actions.
Process incoming calls into the MIT ITIL ticketing system with proper details.
Monitor, identify, and resolve issues on all environments to ensure all platforms are properly functioning and available to user community.
Manage tape media environment to ensure backups are successful, copies of backups are rotated to offsite location, and scratch media is available.
Ensure the timely and efficient processing of production schedules on all computer systems.
Monitor systems for processing exceptions, follow documented support instructions, and contact appropriate support personnel in a timely fashion, and escalate issues as appropriate.
Adhere to all Information Services policies and procedures.
Adhere to guidelines related to the physical security of the Data Center and hardware assets.
Identify and suggest potential areas where policies and procedures require improvement.
Be available periodically to cover shifts for other computer operators.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Thorough knowledge of MS Windows Operating systems.
Operations troubleshooting experience including processing tickets in a ticketing system.
Direct experience with hardware technologies.
Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills.
Experience in a customer service environment
Demonstrate the capacity/drive to learn new skills.
Enthusiastic about customer service.
Ability to thrive in a small project team environment.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability/willingness to work weekends, evenings, etc.
Position will work a hybrid schedule out of our Kenosha, WI location and remote from home.
Experience with IBM iOS or other server operating systems is a plus.
24x7 Production Data Center experience is a plus.
Education and Experience
Two-year or four-year college degree is preferred.
Minimum one year of IT experience.
