The pay range is $98,000.00 - $176,000.00

The Tech Inventory Engineering team:
Develops user-first tooling that tracks our global technology inventory to reduce loss, facilitate planning, and encourage re-use
Integrates with other systems to support day to day operations (e.g. breakfix)
Supports Target’s Enterprise Data Strategy to enable organization-wide, AI/ML-powered analytics

Kotlin, Ktor (backend services)
MongoDB

As a Tech Inventory Engineering Senior Software Engineer (Frontend), you will...
Architect, design, and deliver scalable, high-quality frontend applications aligned to the Tech Inventory Engineering roadmap
Translate user and business requirements into intuitive, performant, and accessible experiences, owning the end-to-end frontend across platforms
Ensure frontend reliability, performance, observability, and security through strong engineering practices
Apply modern UI technologies, frameworks, and design patterns to build maintainable, testable systems and shared components
Partner with product, design, and backend teams to build the right solutions while influencing UX, accessibility, and quality standards
Drive frontend quality through automated testing (UI, component, BDD) and robust CI/CD practices
Mentor engineers and lead code reviews to elevate technical capability across the team
Support the product through on-call participation, proactively reducing issues through quality and observability
About you:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on frontend engineering
Deep expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js)
Strong understanding of web fundamentals (performance, rendering, browser behavior, accessibility, SEO)
Experience integrating with REST services and working with diverse data models and data stores
Demonstrated ability to translate requirements into accessible, user-centered solutions
Applies test-first development and modern testing practices to ensure quality
Rapidly experiments to validate technical and UX feasibility
Resolves routine and complex technical issues with minimal guidance
Collaborates effectively with engineers and cross-functional partners
Continuously learns and adapts to new technologies, quickly building proficiency
Advocates for best practices in design, testing, accessibility, and observability
Understands and applies data standards, policies, and governance practices
Leverages AI tooling to enhance design, development, and testing with sound judgment
Strong written communication skills with the ability to write clear technical specifications and documentation
Breaks down complex problems or technical decisions into clear units of work

Experience with:
Next.js, TypeScript, Jest, Cypress, Playwright
Figma, Adobe XD
Design systems, component libraries, and frontend architecture patterns (e.g., micro-frontends)
http clients and tooling such as Insomnia or Postman
Accessibility standards and tooling (e.g., WCAG, ARIA, Lighthouse, Stark, axe)
Passion for improving developer experience and automating frontend workflows
Familiarity with backend technologies (Kotlin, Ktor) and data stores (MongoDB, PostgreSQL)
Domain experience with inventory, asset, or warehouse management systems
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team, and tasks require for that day.
