How these figures are calculated

  • Source: active postings in the Data Center Technician category on Racks & Rows (674 active as of Nov 3, 2026). Only postings that state pay are used, so postings without pay are excluded.
  • Technician titles only: the job title must contain “technician” or “tech”/“techs” as a word, and must not contain manager, director, supervisor, engineer or architect as a word.
  • One job counts once: postings from the same employer with the same title, pay period and pay figure are counted as one, even when listed in several locations. Postings from the same employer with different pay figures are counted separately.
  • Where a posting gives a range, we use the midpoint of the minimum and maximum; where it gives one figure, we use that figure.
  • A few employers can list many technician roles, so beside each headline figure we show the median with the 3 employers that have the most counted postings left out. They are chosen from the data for each pay period, and the comparison is omitted when fewer than 10 postings would remain.
  • Only US dollar pay on US-located postings is included. Annual and hourly pay are kept apart and never converted into each other. Postings in other currencies are not converted or blended in.
  • We leave out figures that look like data errors: a minimum above the maximum, a maximum more than 3 times the minimum, annual pay outside $20,000 to $300,000, and hourly pay outside $8 to $150. We also leave out postings with a pay figure but no currency or pay period.
  • The median is the middle posting; the range shown is the middle half of postings (25th to 75th percentile). Breakdowns by seniority or state appear only where a group has at least 10 postings.
  • Advertised ranges often span several levels of experience, so a midpoint is not what any one person is offered.
  • Figures refresh about once a day from live postings, so they change as roles open and close.
